First Command
Client Stories
Benjamin makes it a priority to fully understand his client’s goals and to help pursue them.
My name is Kurt Jarrio and I retired from the US Navy in 2000 after 20 years of service. We have been with First Command since 1994 and started out with just a straight mutual fund that we set up a direct deposit into the fund. We never stopped depositing money into the account (at the advice of First Command) even after the 15-year time limit for the fund. In 2017 Robin Jones contacted us from the Greenville, SC office to set up a meeting to begin in-depth planning for our retirement. We gave Robin all the required information (retirement dates, investments, annual income, etc.).
Robin set us up with a plan that had us cash out the Mutual funds, pay off the mortgage and other small bills, deposit a large chunk into our savings, and start a new joint account through First Command. Being debt-free at that point allowed us to start putting even more away into savings while allowing us to continue our lifestyle and spending habits. In early 2019, Benjamin Stocum started attending our planning meetings as he was scheduled to take over from Robin when she retired (Benjamin took full control of our account in 2020 after Robin retired).
They designed several different strategies for us to review for when we could each retire, when to draw Social Security, and how to utilize the money that we put away into a 401k. In September of 2019, Benjamin sat us down at our biannual meeting and laid out our retirement plan simulating us retiring! Armed with that information, we were able to set both my wife’s and my actual retirement date. Due to the hard work and dedication of both Robin and Benjamin, we are now both retired and live the life of retirement. I would highly recommend First Command and specifically Benjamin Stocum as a financial advisor. Benjamin makes it a priority to fully understand his client’s goals and to help pursue them.
