First Command Adds Retired Marine Corps Lieutenant General to Military Advisory Board

FORT WORTH, Texas — First Command Financial Services, Inc. announced today that retired U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. David A. Ottignon has joined the First Command Military Advisory Board.

Lt. Gen. Ottignon completed a distinguished 37-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring in September 2024 as Commanding General of II Marine Expeditionary Force, where he led more than 40,000 Marines and Sailors with operational responsibilities across the U.S. Atlantic region and Europe.
Throughout his career, he served in a wide range of senior leadership roles, including Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, where he oversaw recruiting, talent management, policy and more than $15 billion in resources. He also served as Inspector General of the Marine Corps, Commanding General of 1st Marine Logistics Group and Deputy Director of Operations (J3) at U.S. European Command.
Earlier assignments include command positions at multiple levels across the operating forces, as well as service as Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commandant for Installations and Logistics.

Lt. Gen. Ottignon holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He was also selected as a Commandant of the Marine Corps National Security Affairs Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
