First Command Ranked Among Nation’s Top Military Friendly Employers, First Command Reports
Victory Media ranks First Command No. 15 on Top 100 Military Friendly Employers List and recognizes it as a Military Friendly Employer® for the third straight year.
FORT WORTH, Texas – First Command Financial Services, Inc. announced today that it has been named one of the nation’s top employers of military veterans and spouses by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse magazines.
First Command has earned the No. 15 spot on the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers List for 2015, marking its third straight year to be designated a Military Friendly Employer®.
Companies compete for the elite Military Friendly Employer® title via a data-driven survey, with data independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media and its Advisory Board. Criteria for the survey includes a benchmark score across key programs and policies such as the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs for veterans and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.
“We are committed to recruiting military veterans and spouses as the next generation of First Command Financial Advisors, continuing a military-focused hiring strategy that dates back to our company founding more than a half century ago” said Scott Spiker, CEO of First Command. “We are in the midst of a five-year initiative to recruit more than 2,100 Financial Advisors to meet the growing demand for our face-to-face service delivered in the communities where our servicemember clients live and work. Today’s military families are facing unique personal finance challenges related to sequestration and defense downsizing, and they are seeking the help of knowledgeable and trustworthy Financial Advisors to coach them in the pursuit of long-term financial security.”
First Command employs more than 400 Financial Advisors, about 70 percent of whom come from the ranks of veterans and military spouses.
Now in its 12th year, Military Friendly® Employers is the premier resource for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment. Each year, companies taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Advisory Board consisting of leaders in the military recruitment community. A full list of board members can be found at www.MilitaryFriendly.com/board.
“The 2015 Military Friendly® Employers represent the preeminent tier of companies with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses,” said Sean Collins, Vice President for Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. “Our Military Friendly® Employers constitute the group of companies moving the needle and realizing significant benefits by hiring from the military community. This year’s group of companies reported hiring over 155,000 service members and spouses over the last 12 months, representing a 35 percent increase over last year and an average of 15 percent of total new hires.”
First Command and other 2015 Military Friendly® Employers will be showcased in the December issue of G.I. Jobs® magazine and the January 2015 issue of Military Spouse magazine, as well as on www.MilitaryFriendly.com.
