It’s a privilege to work at First Command and I’m grateful my children are now appreciative clients.
In the early 1980s, my late husband, Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Brower, and his entire wardroom were invited to a First Command dinner seminar. We attended the seminar in Charleston, South Carolina, where we met Advisor Clay Swindell. Subsequently, Clay prepared and helped us implement our first financial plan.
Fast forward a few years when our son and daughter were born. Shortly after, in 1986, my husband was diagnosed with melanoma. He was transferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital, where he underwent immunotherapy for his metastatic cancer. He battled cancer for five years, but finally succumbed to it in 1991.
Matthew was medically retired on the day of his death. Immediately, our First Command Advisor, Mike Gilbert, came to our home. He coordinated a meeting with Matthew's new commanding officer and our family attorney and accountant to discuss our family’s financial future. He assisted me with my husband’s life insurance policy, filing for benefits, paying off debts and continuing to invest in my retirement and my children’s college savings accounts.
After eventually settling in Dallas, I became an Office Manager for First Command, gaining additional perspective on the company. I meet regularly with my current Advisor, Daniel Sciantarelli, as he assists me in pursuing my retirement goals.
Over the course of my many years with First Command, I’ve always appreciated the positive influence they have had on the life of my family – and on the lives of so many other military families. I considered it a privilege to work for the company and I’m grateful my adult children are now appreciative First Command clients. Thank you, First Command.
